A Reflection on Technolgy

https://youtu.be/8vrSLQ1qV7w Technology Practices: Reflection Jim Abear Liberty University EDUC: 630-B05 Dr. Rory Morse March 10th, 2023   This course challenged me like no other class at Liberty University, some weeks I felt confident in my tech skills, other weeks I considered dropping out. The weekly assignments pushed me beyond my comfort zone, especially creating a blog site; seven weeks ago I would have laughed at the suggestion of having a personal blog page, yet this assignment is going to be posted there. The following are reflections on blogging and assistive technology. Blogs “A Blog is a kind of web page are created, designed, managed, and updated by an individual with regular entries of event descriptions, opinions, narratives, and commentaries added over time.” (Roblyer & Hughes, 2023) This type of technology has purposely been created to be accessible by the public as a digital forum where discussions occur regarding important issues and topics. Some t...

Trending Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology Trend Summary Jim Abear Liberty University EDUC: 630-B05 Dr. Rory Morse March 6th, 2023   The use of Assistive Technology (AT) in school classrooms is certainly gaining momentum, it seems unlikely that pencil and paper curriculum will be able to withstand the overwhelming flow of Education Technology (Ed.T). AT is being developed as a partnership between ED design companies and in-class educators, therefore it makes sense that teachers will need to improve their technology skills in order to help students with disabilities optimize the benefits (Fernandez-Batanero, Montenegro-Ruede, Fernandez-Cerero, & Garcia-Martinez, 2022). AT has the potential to help students who have limited interactions with their peers due to their disability to engage in classroom learning and life skills (Zilz & Pang, 2021). A recent 2020 review of AT effectiveness for students with disabilities found that AT shows the greatest potential for the hearing impaired student, ...

Technology Differentiation in The Classroom

Technology Lesson Demonstration Merge Cube           Jim Abear Liberty University EDUC 630-B05 Dr. Rory Morse February 19, 2023       Why I chose Merge Cube®             The Merge Cube® can integrate holographic technology into a human anatomy lesson. Using a mobile device (e.g., iPhone, iPad, or tablet) the user simply downloads the Merge app where a wide variety of categories are available for exploration. The learning begins when the Merge Cube® is scanned by a mobile device camera which then displays a 3-D holograph image of the skeleton system on the screen of the iPad. This technology enables me to lift the printed diagram of the human skeleton off the textbook pages and into the hand of the student, who can rotate the skeleton from anterior to superior to change the perspective. It really is fun and engaging. Differentiation and Merge Cube®        ...

Gaming in the classroom learning environment

Discussion Post: Gaming                               I’m grateful that our course textbook, Integrating Educational Technology into Teaching , coauthored by M.D. Roblyer and J.E. Hughes, has dedicated a subsection of Chapter 5 to the potential benefits and challenges associated with “edutainment”  (Roblyer & Hughes, 2023) . Integrating games into the classroom may “reintroduce playful learning in the classroom”  (Roblyer & Hughes, 2023) , but can we honestly say that having fun is the curriculum goal? I say it is not. I acknowledge the potential benefits of gaming in the education process, some of which are listed by Roblyer and Hughes: Problem-based learning, Collaborative learning, Realistic and immersive environments. Yet, Roblyer and Hughes also point out that “it is sometimes difficult to pinpoint their education value”, or even “the goals ...

The Integration of Education & Technology in the classroom

Personal Philosophy Paper Technology in Education       Jim Abear Liberty University EDUC 630 - B05 Dr. Rory Morse January 29, 2023     Personal Philosophy Paper             Considering the use of technology in education has probably been the subject of many discussions, both inside the school walls and under the roofs of interested households. The talk is no longer about whether or not technology belongs in education, rather, it revolves around the amount that should be integrated into the teaching profession and the learning process. Deciding what technology to integrate is difficult, especially when ed-tech has the potential to bring dramatic changes to the classroom. A recent study that used the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) brings some clarity to the subject, such as age and gender being significant variables, but in the end concluded that this is a compl...
